Symbolic links may refer to other symbolic links, in which case the links are dereferenced until an object that is not a symbolic link is found, a symbolic link that refers to a file which does not exist is found, or a loop is detected. Remote to remote symbolic links are enabled. It seemed a logical solution, but still no access for me. Probably it works only for the paths on servers, non on other local disks. May 07, 2012 When access a symbolic link on a file server, sometimes you may see the following error: 'The symbolic link cannot be followed because its type is disabled' This is because by default remote to remote symbolic links are disabled.
Symbolic Links Not Followed Meaning
I have staff reporting to me that their commvault linux agent is not following symbolic links and only restores the symbolic link itself and not the data it linked to. Now, i had told them to backup the true path to the data, but the problem for them is when they browse the server via the commvault gui subclient content selection tool, it shows them symbolic links as real directories and shows them the files and directories under it, so they are unaware its through a symlink. They then select it, thinking it will be backed up, but when they go to restore, all they get is a symlink file and no content. Hi Ryan, This is interesting, I just checked the 8.0 GUI at one of my Linux iDAs and can clearly see while browsing for content the symbolic links show up as symbolic links, and are not traversable. Please take a look at the screenshot below. I've browsed for content in the /etc directory on a Linux server. You can see that in the /etc directory there is a symbolic link called rc that links to rc.d.
The Symbolic Link Cannot Be Followed Because
Because rc is a link, it does NOT appear as a folder on the left, and under the contents on the right you can see that we actually display the link (It's pointing to rc.d). It's also listed as a symbolic link under the Type column and NOT a folder. We've received a number of requests from customers for an option to 'follow' symlinks during backup, and I believe it is being considered for a future release. Let us know if this helps clear things up for you.
